To better understand what mechanisms are involved in the aging process, it is necessary to introduce the concept of “telomere”. These are sections of DNA with a repeating sequence located at the end of the chromosome sequence. Their task is to stabilize and protect DNA during cell division, i.e. copying.
Over time, telomeres undergo the so-called replicative senescence, as a result of which they shorten. This phenomenon has a direct impact on the slowing down of cell regeneration processes. Shortening telomeres slowly but surely impairs cells’ ability to divide. The shorter the telomeres, the more cells are copied incorrectly. As a result, they die or produce the so-called senile cells, among others characteristic brown spots on the skin of elderly people. The longer telomeres do not undergo replicative senescence (they do not shorten), the longer the human body will have greater regenerative abilities. In other words, it will age slower and function better and more efficiently.
In 2020, specialists from Tel Aviv University (TAU) and Shamir Medical Center in Israel conducted a number of tests with hyperbaric oxygen.
